by Jonathan Whiley, Merthyr ExpressHAS the mystery big cat of Merthyr Tydfil finally been caught on camera?
Ryan McCarthy took a picture of what he believes to be the feral feline during a walk on the hills of Dowlais Top.
And he thinks that the snap may provide proof that the prowling predator is continuing to stalk the borough.
“I have spotted this cat or what looks to be this cat on a few occasions now,” he said.
“It appears harmless and non-threatening to humans.
“On the few occasions I have seen it, it has just walked away from me or simply carried on cleaning and grooming itself as it was doing in the picture, depending on how much distance is between us.”
Sightings of the animal have flooded in since coach driver Robert Davies spotted a large black cat “bounding” across the A470 near Cyfarthfa Retail Park in December. Experts reacted by warning the public to lock up their animals.
Big cat expert Danny Nineham said: “Until they see a big cat, most people don’t believe it but we’re not claiming it’s Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster or that aliens have invaded – it is very real. We have got hundreds of these things.”
